The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be available on Android and iOS worldwide on July 21. Spokko, which was acquired by CD Projekt Capital Group in 2018, developed and published the free-to-play augmented reality (AR) role-playing game (RPG). Pre-registration for the upcoming mobile game is now open on the Google Play store, and those who do so will receive an in-game reward as part of their inventory. The Witcher: Monster Slayer is set in the Witcher universe and is based on the books by author Andrzej Sapkowski and the CD Projekt games.
The game’s mechanics are similar to Pokemon Go, but it features creatures and characters from the Witcher universe. Players will take on the role of new ‘witchers,’ engaging in location-based gameplay in which they will fight a variety of monsters by physically exploring the world around them. It takes place many years before the events of the Witcher game series.
“In Monster Slayer, players will see their surroundings transformed into the dark fantasy realm known from The Witcher universe. As a newly trained witcher, they will use location-based gameplay and advanced augmented reality features to track down and hunt bloodthirsty monsters lurking nearby,” CD Projekt writes in a blog post.
Spokko has also made The Witcher: Monster Slayer available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store for Android users. Those who pre-register will receive the Kaer Morhen Steel Sword, which will be added to their inventory when the game launches on July 21. This sword grants players 10% more Experience Points for killing monsters in-game. Back in April, the game opened up for early access registrations.
